Wood from our forests is cut into thin strips to be woven into baskets. Many species of trees lend themselves to basket construction. Pesky Bear uses the best maple and hickory. All baskets are hand tacked and woven by skilled craftsmen who require 2-3 years of training to become proficient. Many styles of todays baskets originated before the advent of the corrugated box when baskets were used by industry to haul their products and parts. Bread, fish, meat, machine parts, almost everything was moved in baskets and basket manufacturers were common in every city.
